Here are 5 ways to ensure a smooth EV driving experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Paris 2024’s commitment to sustainable mobility

As the 2024 Olympic Games approach, Paris is preparing to showcase world-class athletic talent and lead the charge in sustainable mobility. The city is making significant efforts to enhance its EV charging infrastructure to accommodate the influx of visitors (an anticipated 3 million), including EV drivers.

Toyota, as the official mobility partner, is supplying a fleet of more than 2.650 EVs and 700 electric last-mile mobility solutions for the event. This includes 250 Accessible People Movers (APMs) and various other electric mobility products designed to facilitate sustainable and inclusive transportation for athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators.

1. Efficiently locate and uuse EV charging stations

Paris has made significant strides in establishing a robust network of EV charging stations, with around 802 public stations strategically distributed across the city and its suburbs. Initiatives like the Belib' network, operated by Total Marketing France, have increased the number of charging points, currently offering over 2.000 charging points, including fast chargers in dedicated car parks.

Our E-Flux app can help you locate charging stations, manage your sessions, and navigate the city with ease. It also allows you to compare prices and find the best deals, saving you time and money. With the E-Flux charge card, you can get extensive features like 99% roaming coverage in the EU and 24/7 customer support, making it an invaluable tool for EV drivers at the Olympics.

2. Ensure your charging plan includes roaming capabilities

A charging plan with roaming capabilities is essential for a seamless experience across Paris. Our E-Flux charge card allows you to charge at more than 530.000 charge points in Europe and the UK, without paying roaming transaction fees at E-Flux-supported points, saving you up to 3 cents per kWh.

Roaming works through the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI), an open communication protocol that simplifies roaming between EV networks and ensures accurate information exchange such as location, charger availability, and pricing. With the E-Flux charge card, you can access charging stations just as easily as at home, ensuring a stress-free charging experience throughout your trip.

3. Be aware of route closures & restrictions

During the Games, Paris will implement several levels of traffic and security restrictions around Olympic sites. There will be three main types of perimeters:

  • The Blue Perimeter allows free access for pedestrians, cyclists and scooters, with motorised vehicles needing written permission to enter.
  • The Red Perimeter grants free access to pedestrians, cyclists and scooters. Residents and workers in those areas need a digital pass.
  • The Grey Perimeter (SILT) grants access to ticket holders, accredited visitors and those with a digital pass.

You can use the interactive map so you can plan around the traffic and available transport.

4. Manage EV charging costs

Understanding and managing charging costs is crucial during the Olympics. Charging costs can vary by time and station type. For instance, Belib' terminals charge €1 per hour during the day and are free at night for AC charging. Accelerated charging costs €0.25 per 15 minutes for the first hour.

To reduce costs, avoid frequent use of fast chargers, plan your trips to charge during off-peak hours, and consider using a charge card like E-Flux, which offers transparent pricing and no roaming fees when you charge at an E-Flux-supported charging station..
